Where can I find information about others people's experiences, lessons learnt, success stories on pastoral development?

FARM-Africa has just published a series called the PDP Best Practices series, which outlines best practices from FARM-Africa's Pastoralist Development Project in Kenya.

For further information, contact them at the following address: PO Box 49502, 00100 Nairobi, Kenya, Email: kenrep@africaonline.co.uk

Oxfam have published the following publication:

Perspectives in Pastoral Development: A casebook from Kenya
Halima A O Shuria and Isobel Birch
160pp
2001
ISBN 0855984678
Description: An objective account of a major Oxfam initiative: the Wajir Pastoral Project in north-east Kenya, with its distinctive emphasis on community participation. It explains how marginalised groups are developing their own pastoral assocations to represent their interests, and Oxfam's role in facilitating that process. It describes an integrated approach to pastoral development: supporting the livelhoods of livestock keepers and those who have lost their animals; devising stategies to address drought and conflict as part of a longer-term agenda for sustainable development; and working to influence key decisions made by high-level policy-makers.

In tightly packed groups of livestock disease can spread quickly. Farmers inject antibiotics into the feed to help control the disease. These antibiotics go straight from the animals into our meat, dairy, and eggs. I sell a product that will help sanitize your barn and clean the air in them and keep them from smelling without using any chemicals or filters. It works with negative ionization and ozone to improve the air quality in your barn. It will work to control mold, dust, surface bacteria and airborne bacteria, dander, feathers, fumes from ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, and pit exhaust. One farmer testified that 25-50 percent of his pigs were dying before he purchased this product, and now out of 360 pigs only 2 died without even putting drugs or medicine in the feed, and it removed 95% of the barn odors. This product is designed for barns or anywhere else animals are confined up to 24,000 square feet. If you are interested in purchasing this product or have any questions, or if you would like to become a dealer of this product yourself please email me at independentdistro@yahoo.com.

I was wondering: for what organizations could I volunteer to be an aid worker in Somalia?
